Community Play Program

Raworth Tennis Centre is also involved in the Tennis Australia Community Play Program.  The program is designed to provide an opportunity for players to enjoy the game of tennis in a fun, supportive environment, and parents and guardians are actively encouraged to assist on-court with scoring and in reinforcing the “Be a good sport” message.  Participants serve, rally and score using the modified equipment where appropriate, and sessions run for 45-90 minutes depending on numbers and usually across a 6 week period.    The program will hopefully get more players playing tennis more often in our local community.  For more information or to sign up for our next Community Play program please call Linda on 02...

Cardio Tennis Program

Here at Raworth Tennis Centre we have 3 Coaches who have recently completed the Cardio Tennis workshop training.  The following information is taken from the Tennis Australia website: “Cardio Tennis is a fun, social, group tennis-fitness program for people of all ages and abilities. It’s more about getting a great, high-energy workout than pure tennis technique. You don’t have to be Rafael Nadal or Sam Stosur to enjoy the energising workout that is Cardio Tennis! Constant movement is the focus as a Tennis Australia qualified coach guides you through a series of fun and heart-pumping drills that cater for all abilities and fitness levels.  An average  Cardio Tennis workout runs for 45 to 60 minutes and is comprised of: 5-10 minute warm-up 30-50 minute cardio tennis segment with drill-based and play-based activities 5-10 minute cool down Participants wear heart rate monitors, exercise to music, use low-compression balls and a variety of equipment, including agility ladders. And, at the end of your session, you can check your stats on the heart-rate monitor to find out just how hard you worked! Hot Shots Program

Here at Raworth Tennis Centre we run the Tennis Australia endorsed MLC Hot Shots  Program of modified tennis for our junior players.  The following is taken from the Tennis Australia website: “For decades, soccer, basketball, netball, Australian Rules, cricket and many other sports introduced children to their sports through the use of smaller equipment and a reduced playing area. Meanwhile, children learning to play tennis were doing so with the same size racquet an adult would use, while being expected to cover a full-size court the way professionals do. So in 2008 Tennis Australia introduced MLC Tennis Hot Shots – the fun and easy way to learn how to serve, rally and score. And we’re not the only ones. In the past few years more than 120 nations have adopted modified tennis programs, including all four Grand Slam countries. Players start with Red stage and progress through orange, to green until they reach full ball, full court yellow tennis!  Red, orange and green low-compression balls don’t bounce as high as a yellow ball. The courts are smaller too, which makes them easier for kids to play on. It also helps them develop realistic footwork patterns and encourages them to use all parts of the court. And the great thing is you don’t need a tennis court – you can play on any flat hard surface. Portable nets, which are used...
